ABOUT PRINTS
A giclée print can be produced exactly to your specification from any of the original paintings presented here. The advantage of giclée printing is that an image can be reproduced to almost any size and onto various media, including stretched canvas, giving you enormous scope for choice. What is a giclée anyway?
Giclée, pronounced "zhee-clay", represents an elevation in printmaking technology; a process producing fine art prints from a digital source using ink-jet printing. Originally developed in America, the word "giclée" is derived from the French language word "le gicleur" meaning "nozzle", or more specifically "gicler" meaning "to squirt, spurt, or spray". It was coined in 1991 by the printmaker Jack Duganne.
The Printmaking Process your giclée print is produced using the latest large format professional ink-jet printers from Epson, with incredibly detailed results. The inks used are specially formulated so that the fine print heads can spray jets of ink at a rate of one million droplets per second with a resolution of 2880 dpi, while commanding 7,8 or 12 colours. The printing media has a specially formulated coating allowing a much higher colour density. The giclée printing process differs from the traditional off-set lithographic prints artists have traditionally used for reproduction, by delivering a stunning and flawless colour representation of the original work, while rendering the production process virtually invisible.
Quality printed onto the highest quality archival substrates and using very specialised inks, a giclée print has remarkable colour saturation and continuous tone characteristics, rivalling traditional silver-halide and gelatin printing processes. Distinguishing a giclée print from the original painting can be very difficult, even to the expert eye.
Your print will be produced on acid-free calcium carbonate-buffered archival watercolour paper or onto fine archival-quality cotton canvas coated with an acid free primer. Light-fast life expectancy is 100 to 200 years, comparable or better than other collectible artwork and therefore commonly found in museums, art galleries, and photographic galleries.
Image Capture the original painting is digitally photographed or scanned to produce a very high resolution file. When photographed, the RAW file is checked against the original painting for colour matching, and then saved as a Tiff file, ready for proofing. The proof is then checked against the original before going to print.
Stretched Canvas your giclée is printed onto 340gsm canvas, hand-stretched over a high quality artist stretcher and arrives to you ready to hang. The canvas has a matt, non-smear, non-crack finish. The stretcher is made from kiln-dried timber to prevent warping, and if over 60cm, includes an anti-flex crossbar.
Full Gallery Wrap a bleed edge or 'gallery wrap' is created when the image is wrapped around the sides of the canvas. If the image has critical elements close to the edge it may not be suitable for gallery wrapping. A mirrored edge or front-only may be a great alternative.
Mirrored Edge this is an excellent way to create a gallery wrap effect without losing the composition of the original painting. The detail is copied from the edge of the painting and flipped over to add extra printing detail to allow for the depth of the stretcher bars.
Front Only the image is printed on the front surface of the canvas whilst the edges are colour matched to compliment the image. This finish is ideal if there is critical detail towards the edges, which would otherwise be lost with a gallery wrap.
Original or Giclée?
Every painting presented here is authentic; one of a kind. The original work has been in direct contact with the artist, which possesses layers of paint and real brushstrokes that create actual surface texture. Authentic original paintings are understandably the preferred choice for the collector who is purchasing original art for investment purposes.
Artist-signed, fine art giclée prints will hold greater investment value than a mass produced image. Museum quality giclée prints are well respected, purchased, and collected worldwide, by the most discerning dealers.
If the original painting has already sold, or you’re thinking bigger, then a giclée print is a fabulous alternative.
Authenticity every original painting and giclée print from Vesna Abstract has a specifically designed Stamp of Authenticity and artist signature on the back of each work.
Your Guarantee: A painting or print may be returned for any reason within 30 days for a refund or exchange.
